Tips to follow before and during a vocal contest
Performing in a vocal contest means that you have to bare your soul in front of a crowd of unknown people. It can be pretty difficult to deal with but you have to make sure that you get over it as soon as possible.
Here are some tips that you should follow before and during a vocal contest.
- You should always be at ease with the microphone while singing. It will help if you can get yourself familiar with the mike. You should know the right way to hold it. Try and practice it as much as possible to get the right way to handle a mike.
- Once you reach the stage of the vocal competition, try and find out what kind of microphone will they be providing you. This is really important as you should be comfortable using that particular mike. If it is your first time in front of a live singing competition audience it would be better not to take a stand. Also see to it that the microphone is not turned on before it is handed out to you. Always do a mike check when you have it in your hand, by tapping it.
- When your turn comes make it a point to introduce yourself to the judges and the audience. Practice well what you will be saying in front of them before going to the vocal contest. It would help if you can write the whole thing down on a set of really small index cards and practice with them. The performers should not fumble while talking to the audience or the judge. Make it a point to keep the introduction short, include your name and the title of the song you are going to sing into it. Also mention the reason for you to choose that song. This gives the whole thing a personal touch and helps to connect with the people listening to your singing.
- It is very important for you to dress properly when you perform. People do notice the way you dress up, especially in the singing contest, where they judge your overall personality. The clothing should suit the type of singing competition. You should look presentable, overall. You should look ready to set the stage on fire. If you will look good your confidence will automatically rise.
- You will be anxious, especially if it is going to be your first time. It is perfectly normal; this is because even the professional singers can develop this anxious feeling. They also feel butterflies in their stomach. Don’t be worried, it is completely natural, just be confident and you will sail through.
- The most important that you should remember is that you are standing in front of the singing competition audience, because you have earned it. You are not a fluke, you have earned your right to sing their and you are going to rule the stage.
