Sterling Audio ST77 Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Mic $454.99 Certain vintage and modern German mics are lusted after for their ability to produce full-bodied vocals with a unique sheen that has come to be known as "air." Of course they also come with a throat-clogging price tag (and that's just the modern ones, vintage market prices bring you closer to cardiac arrest). However, Sterling Audio has found a way to bring you that vintage FET sound without the mind-numbing price tag the Sterling ST77 large-diaphragm condenser. Sterling designed the ST77 condenser mic around a Class-A discrete FET mic amp specially chosen to match its cardioid, large diaphragm capsule. The capsule itself has been sized and tuned to provide a silky and airy top end with a full, warm mid-range reminiscent of vintage microphones. Hand-selected internal components create a sound that flatters vocals and instruments.Requires phantom power. |

Rode Microphones NT1-A Condenser Mic Bundle $229 To celebrate 15 years of the RØDE NT1 and NT1-A, RØDE Microphones has created a revised NT1-A package including a premium shock mount, pop filter, cable, microphone dust cover, and a bonus instructional DVD. Originally released in 1995, the RØDE NT1 mic is found in professional and project studios the world over. Its combination of clarity, warmth, extended dynamic range and high SPL capability made it an instant classic with professional engineers and home recording artists alike. Following heavy investment in precision manufacturing, RØDE revised the microphone capsule and electronic design of the NT1, resulting in only 5dB SPL (A-weighted per IEC651) of self noise. Released in 2003 as the NT1-A, it has since become one of the world's biggest selling and most recognizable condenser microphones. Now RØDE has truly made the NT1-A the complete recording solution by including a premium shock mount with integrated pop filter, high-quality 6m (20') XLR cable, microphone dust cover and even a bonus instructional DVD. Presented by RØDE founder and company president, Peter Freedman, The NT1-A Studio Secrets DVD features a range of tips and techniques to help RØDE NT1-A owners get the most from their new microphone. |

ART Phantom I Studio Mic Power Supply $50 The ART Phantom I is a 48V Phantom power supply for studio microphones. The Phantom I has a wide frequency response and features a female XLR input and a male XLR output. 18V DC power adaptor included. Different condenser microphones specify different amounts of required phantom power. As a rule these ratings can range from 48 volts all the way down to 9 volts. Fortunately, there is some flexibility in terms of matching phantom voltage to your mic. A rough rule of thumb would be "more is better." For example, a 24-volt condenser mic will run perfectly on 48 volts. In fact, mics rated at as little as 9 volts can often operate on 48 volts, but you should check with the manufacturer first. Conversely, a mic will generally perform best driven by not less than its rated voltage so, for a 48V mic, you would obtain best results with 48 volts of phantom power. The Phantom I is a great choice for the above needs. |

Shure SM 86 condenser mic vs. the classic SM58 dynamic mic?
I've been using the SM 58 for a long time is it time for me to upgrade to an SM 86 condenser mic????
The all famous SM 58 lives up to its title. rugged great sounding and all around great mic to use for any venue.
However after various reviews on condenser mics especially the SM86 I was wondering if the difference is subtle or studio like sound as they say it is...
I have not had the chance to demo the SM86 if anyone is willing to help me maybe give me your opinion on it, and how it sounds. And any pros and cons to it and if I should just stick with my SM 58 or upgrade....
I Will be using this mic through a Fishman solo amp system.
Are you recording or using it to sing publicly ? the condenser is better for recording some instruments than the dynamic. And vise versa.
