Which mic is better 4 recording vocals, a AKG Perception 220 or a Nady RSM 1 ribbon?
looking on to buy a mic for my studio...want to know which mic is better 4 recording vocals for rap and r&b.
Quite a tricky question to give a good answer to as sound production is largely subjective. But for what it's worth...
The prices of the two units are similar, and for good solid branding, I don't think you can beat AKG for condenser mics, they are a world leader in this type of equipment.
On the other hand a ribbon mic is just intriguing enough to consider as there are not that many people using ribbon mic's and it might just give you the sound you are looking for - more on mic types here:

Both mics take high SPL tolerance which might be important for a hard edged lyrical style (the ribbon mic scores a little higher). I can't really say which would be better for you, but in conclusion I would say if this is your first condenser mic for vocals, I would take the AKG as it will be solid and reliable in all sorts of circumstances - if you have a couple of mic's and are looking for something a bit different, then take a chance on the ribbon mic...
