How To Fix And Maintain A Plug In Hanging Lamp
A plug in hanging lamp provides you with the advantage of mobility since you can easily install it from one area to another depending on the function and needs of the room. It also makes the item more vulnerable to damage and deterioration from frequent use. You have to learn the methods of repairing the plug in hanging lamp and keeping it good as new for many years.
Preventing Damage
Ensure that the operating voltage of your plug in hanging lamp is in the recommended range. Very high voltages will overdrive your lighting system. Although it provides more brightness, it actually shortens the lamp's lifespan overall. Going overboard by even 1 volt can reduce the lifespan of your hanging ceiling lamp by half.
Under voltage is also a sign of poor connection or ground termination probably stemming from corrosion and bad ground points. Check the connections and apply non-conductive grease. Keep your plug in hanging lamp cool since too much heat can be detrimental to long-term functionality. LED or incondesant lamps should dissipate the heat produced for longer lifespan.
Check the mounting areas of your plug in hanging lamp to avoid heat-producing systems or components like an exhaust system. Enough airspace should be provided to transfer heat properly. The lamp lens must be free of dirt and kept clean to help lower the temperature.
Assess the connectors at least once a month if it is installed properly. Examine wire leads and observe for abrasions and signs of damage. Corrosion in sockets means that these should be replaced. Never touch glass components of a plug in hanging lamp with your bare hands. Always use a cloth when handling. Check all mounting hardware to make sure that the whole light fixture is secure in the hanging position.
Repairing Damage
Remove the plug of your plug in hanging lamp once in a while and assess the socket if the wires and connections are good. The continuity of the cord should be flawless. Apply duct tape as needed and non-corrosive grease on all junctions, terminals and plugs to prevent corrosions.
If the corrosion is only minor or just starting, you may scrub it off using fine sand paper. Dust out the lens tube and reassemble the lens barrel. You may consider disassembling then reassembling the unit every quarter to ensure that all parts of your plug in hanging lamp are in good condition and working properly.
