The Dual Source PRE also comes with a Remote Control, which mounts nondestructively to the soundhole and puts volume and mix controls at your fingertips. Universal Onboard Mic/Pickup Mixer The Dual Source Preamp is a miniature onboard microphone/pickup mixer. It features all-discrete, Class A circuitry and provides a perfect mix between the most popular pickups and mini-microphones. Like a rack in a matchbox, the Dual Source Preamp provides a great sounding, simple to use and affordable way to enjoy the benefits of a blended system without hauling around a rack full of gear or cutting your guitar for knobs. The Remote Control Unique to the DS, and a must for stage use, is the exclusive soundhole mounted controller, the Remote Control. It attaches nondestructively to the edge of the soundhole and puts master volume and microphone volume controls right at your fingertips. Tonelux Mp5a All-Discrete Mic Preamp $785 The Tonelux MP5A is a discrete mic preamp with a DI (direct input) on the front panel. The MP5As Mic In is transformer coupled in and out, and has a 20dB pad (affects both Mic and DI), 48V Phantom power switch, and Phase or Polarity switch. The pad and polarity switches affect both inputs. The inner, or larger (silver) knob sets the mic pre gain and the outer smaller (black) knob controls the output level. We chose the fader control for the outer knob so the gain knob, once set, won't be bumped when adjusting the output level.The 8-segment LED VU meter follows the balanced output of the preamp. The level of the VU meter is adjustable over the entire range from Off to +28. The Peak LED is set at +14VU or +18dBu and can grab a fast peak and display it. An internal jumper selects the Mic Pre Main Output or the Mic Pre Gain Stage signal to feed the VU Meter. This allows the engineer to monitor the real mic pre gain or output level of the MP5A. When monitoring the Mic Pre Gain, the meter shows the actual gain-stage level, and is not affected by the output fader.The Combo XLR/Direct input is for use with a Hi-Z instrument, etc. The Tilt tone control works with both the Mic in and DI, and has it's own Tilt EQ In switch, which is a hardwire bypass switch when out. When turned up, the Tilt control has a 0 to 6dB boost on the high end while cutting the low end the same amount. If turned down, Tilt will boost the low end up to 6dB and cut the high end up to 6dB. The front-panel XLR is multed to the rear-panel XLR, and is also multed to the D-Sub Input on the rear of the V4 Roadster 500-series rack. The Insert Return input of the V4 is a resistor-isolated mic-level input that can be used when the MP5A is in a live recording situation and there is no splitter. It will bridge the mic line with 10x the impedance to minimize loading the microphone. Included with the MP5A Mic Pre is the ability to PFL (Pre Fader Listen) the output to an external amplifier or to the mixer/master section for previewing the signal directly off the mic pre output. |

The ultra-precision summing and difference amplifiers feed a set of dedicated outputs, which allows simultaneous recording of discrete mid and side signals as well as the stereo matrix.The front panel mounted HI-Z inputs are designed to accommodate a wide variety of high impedance input sources, making the m201 preamplifier an excellent choice as a DI box which will flawlessly preserve the sound of any plugged-in instrument. Imagine the same resolution and detail as Grace Design microphone preamplifiers available for DI recording situations. Music Gear for The Composer
Music composers of the latest generation are no longer limited to just a keyboard, mixer, or specialty synthesizer to compose. Today a variety of gears is available in the market for composers to compose and program their music piece. However, as a composer of music one should remember that the music gear does not produce the music, you do.
The latest music gear for composers that are available on the market are friendlier than ever and easier to play. In modern keyboards the composer will find hundreds, even thousands of instruments all tweaked and ready for their specific applications. The music composer that is looking for drum beats can easily choose from a variety of Techno, rhythm and blues, Hip Hop, Country, Orchestral. They are all stored there in the sound bank ready on the press of GO.
Earlier in the days when the musicians used midi, they had to work very hard to get these sounds. Today the modern sound gears not only make the work easier but also produce great sound quality. Today, the gears are quieter and possess no hisses and hums. At the same time they usually have good support online with free patches and even operating systems which can be easily downloaded by the musician. The latest music gear is more reliable than the older gear.
For the first time, musicians can stop worrying about power supplies dying and battery backed Ram failing. Most manufacturers now produce gears that go through the process of more than two decades of research and development. The effort really shows.
However, composers should remember that high end gears require high end backup gear. Those musicians who are tight on the budget should keep that in mind. If you have invested in an expensive condenser microphone you cannot get away with a low quality pre-amp.
However, the recent few years have brought such tremendous advances to sound quality that the heavy line between pro gear and home gear is getting thinner. To get to higher sound quality you must have great preamps, converters, monitors, good microphones and an excellent sounding room.
As a music composer you can also face input output disasters with your music gear that can leave you irritated. You can avoid all these by just knowing what you have and where you actually are having the problem.
The next step is to identify your goals. If you have a two input soundcard and want to record the whole band where everyone has a track,. as a music composer you may think it is not possible. You go ahead and invest in a twenty-four track mixer only to realize that it too has only two inputs only.
The point is to simply observe what you are paying for and know your gears well. You may have a keyboard with a sampler in-built. Be aware of the features that your gears have.
