Voice Over Talent is Now Wanted More Than Ever

It's understandable that in today's tough economy, many people are re-evaluating their career choice. There are many industries, like auto companies, laying off hundreds, and even thousands of employees. The rush to retrain worker skills is on. Now more than ever, American's are retraining for other lines of work, so that they can find more stable and satisfying work.

There are so many options when it comes to making a career change. If you're looking for a fast moving, and up-and-coming career choice, you may want to consider becoming a voice over talent. Although becoming a voice over talent may not be for everyone, the start up costs are low, and there is great potential for a side income that to many is good news.

Voice over talents provide their recorded voices to projects like movie trailers, video games, and radio and TV commercials. Years ago, voice talents would have to drive to the larger cities to record their voices for agencies, and other clients. Today, the cost of owning a home studio with a mic and computer is extremely affordable, and in some cases, one be started for under $1,000.

As I stated previously, there is lots of upcoming work for those who are interested in getting into the voice over business. Here are a few of the areas in voice over, besides traditional radio and TV commercials, that are on the rise:

1) Podcasting - With the boom of the Internet, there are more and more web sites and blogs that are incorporating podcasts. These podcasts usually contain interviews. And you guessed it, podcast producers will always need interviewers.

2) Video Games - Every 18 year old boy has an XBOX or Playstation (or wants one). There is a lot of money to be made in the video game industry. And with that payoff, video game makers need creative talents working on their next big hit. There are thousands of opportunities for recording voices in up-and-coming video game titles.

3) Corporate Interviewing - Many companies use audio interviews for training purposes, or for recording the history of their company. Recording corporate interviews can become a very lucrative business for someone comfortable talking one-on-one.

4) Web Site Audio - Talking web sites are gaining popularity. Web designers hire hundreds of voice over talents for their web sites every year. These voice clips can be used from everything from audio welcome messages to captcha audio.

5) Voice mail and messaging - Many small and large companies search for voice over talents to record their voice mail introductions. This is a very niche market in the voice over field, but a growing one.

Finding work doing voice overs can be difficult when you first start. However with persistence, a desire to work from home and the change to be your own boss, you can find work. The number of people competing for the same voice over job can be incredibly high, however, if you network with the right voice over agencies, or clients, the financial and personal rewards can be great.
