Antares Mic Modeler EFX Native $129 Using patented Spectral Shaping Tool technology, Antares have created precise digital models of a wide variety of historical classic and exotic microphones. Simply tell Mic Mod EFX what microphone you are actually using and what microphone you'd like it to sound like. It's as simple as that. With over 125 microphones models included in Mic Mod EFX, you can afford to record each track through a model of the specific mic that will best produce that ideal sound you're looking for. Or use it in live performance to get the sound of mics you'd never consider using on stage. You can even use it during mixdown to effectively change the mic on an already recorded track. Not only do the models reproduce all of the subtle sonic characteristics that make each microphone unique, but they also give you control of each mic's specific options. Does the mic have a low cut filter? If so, it's in the model. Wind screen on or off? Close or far placement? Each option results in the same sonic effect that it would have with the actual modeled mic. And for that final touch of perfection, you can even add some tasty tube saturation. Source Mic and Modeled Mic Simply select the mic you're using (or used during your original recording) and the mic you want it to sound like. ProximityProximity Effect is a bass boost that results from placing a directional mic in close proximity to a signal source (e.g., a singer's lips). With Mic Mod EFX's Proximity controls, you can actually create the effects of different mic distances based on the specific physical properties of each individual modeled mic. Low Cut Filter If your source mic has a low cut filter, enter its setting in the Source Mic Low Cut menu. If your selected modeled mic has a low cut filter, you can model the effects of any of its settings with the Modeled Mic Low Cut menu. Pickup Pattern If your source mic has variable pickup patterns, enter the selected pattern in the Source Mic Pattern menu. If your selected modeled mic has variable pickup patterns, you can experiment with the effects of any of its patterns with the Modeled Mic Pattern menu. Tube SaturationBased on the same technology as Antares' famed WARM Tube Saturation Generator, the Tube Saturation control lets you give your track the warmth of a high-quality tube pre-amp. Mic Mod EFX is available as a plug-in for RTAS (Mac & PC), VST (Mac & PC) and Audio Units. At a fraction of the cost of even a modestly lust-worthy mic. |

Manley TNT 2-channel Mic Preamp $2700 The Manley TNT (Tubes No Tubes) 2-Channel Mic Preamp has two different and discrepant mic preamps in one box for two different sound colors. By popular demand, one channel is the exact same mic pre as in the Manley SLAM! with tubes and transformers. The second preamp is a fresh "No Tubes" design from Hutch and is inspired by old British console preamps with a tasty combination of "No Tubes" design with transformers. This one is not a clone of anything preexisting. It is a new flavor but reminiscent of that classic discrete sound. Both channels on the Manley TNT preamp are designed around the basic goal of "just plug a mic in and it sounds great." The tube channel excels on traditionally difficult sources like some bright guitars, reed and brass, cymbals and some vocals. The "No Tubes" channel might be more suited for smoother vocals, drums, bass and raunchy guitars, but you never really knows which preamp is best for the job at hand until you try them. At least you'll have two qualified candidates in one handy 1U chassis. The Manley TNT is a new concept in microphone preamplification for those who don't always need stereo everything but often need choices and often need the best. Besides, you probably have a number of typical stereo preamps and are still looking for that one killer preamp. Manley participated in 3D Audio's "Preamps in Paradise" forum, which was a remarkable opportunity to discuss preamps in depth and more importantly listen to what top engineers liked, disliked, and desired in the next generation of preamps. Manley Labs saw a need for a different unit that truly offered a rainbow of high-end preamp colors at an affordable price. The "T" (Tubes) channel starts off with the highly acclaimed vacuum tube micpre from the SLAM! that is certainly a contender amongst the best cost-no-object tube preamps. The "NT" (No Tubes) channel adds a no-compromise solid-state preamp that sets new sonic standards. Because the solid-state side uses two opposite topologies in tandem that are user controllable, it is like getting two preamp 'sounds' on that side alone. The number one request was variable input impedance somewhat tempered by the number one complaint that so far, the typical gain changes associated with that feature were not fun. Manley offers variable impedance done right, with typically near-zero gain changes. In fact, on the solid-state side a current-mode preamp is used for the lowest impedance and a voltage mode preamp is used for the highest impedance, and these two preamps are appropriately blended for the medium impedance settings. All of the microphone signal is used and almost none thrown away. Both the voltage-mode and current-mode stages are truly optimized and when one changes impedance settings, one hears the effects of how this changes microphone and cable characteristics as opposed to other approaches which mostly take the mic preamp out of its ideal conditions. Lr Baggs Anthem Tru-Mic Acoustic Microphone/Piezo Pickup System $299 After 30 years of effort, LR Baggs has created the Anthem Tru-Mic acoustic guitar microphone which does what every amplified acoustic guitarist has dreamed about and no other pickup manufacturer has been able to create yetunlocked the potential of a microphone to capture the very essence of your guitar with high-feedback resistance for demanding stages. Not obvious, but equally important, is that the natural ease and dynamics of the Anthem Tru-Mic guitar microphone liberates you to play freely without having to compensate for the pickup system. Now you're free to play the way you like, plugged in or not. For the Anthem acoustic guitar mic, LR Baggs used no modeling or illusions. It's not "like" a mic. It's not "like" your guitar. This is a mic, and what you will experience is your guitarloud and with the fidelity and dynamics that come from a real microphone. Tru-Mic Technology At the heart of the LR Baggs Anthem guitar mic is a revolutionary type of microphone. Using a proprietary noise-canceling mic, the Anthem Tru-Mic eliminates any annoying honky or boxy qualities that have been previously associated with internal miking, leaving the pure and natural sound of your guitar the way only a real mic is capable of doing. Because this LR Baggs acoustic mic is positioned within a few millimeters of the guitar top, it has very high gain before feedback. The mic housing mounts easily to the bridge plate and the mic capsule hovers just 3mm above its surface to take advantage of the PZM or boundary effect. This Tru-Mic technology picks up the sound of the vibrations of the entire soundboard and makes the LR Baggs guitar mic unusually free from placement issues. Mic and Piezo Pickup: A Radical Technology The sound quality and feedback resistance of the Anthem Tru-Mic acoustic microphone now allows the mic to be the primary sound source in a mic/pickup system. This is unlike previous systems where only a small amount of the mic could be used to add some air to the dominant pickup signal. This is a radical new relationship between a mic and a pickup, as all of the detail, warmth, and personality of your guitar is captured by the Tru-mic. The mic is augmented, for only the very lowest frequencies, capturing the punch and authority of your playing, by the LR Baggs Element under saddle pickup. Controls The featherweight control unit controls all of the essentials, volume, mix, and phase. It nestles securely just inside of the soundhole for easy fingertip access. The mix control allows a full-blend between the augmented mic and full-range pickup. A multi-segment battery check allows you to maximize battery life and peace of mind. Under the hood is an all-discrete preamp/mixer with the pure, clean LR Baggs signature sound that is trusted by top artists around the world. Thanks to it's intelligent engineering, you can just plug in and enjoy the real sound of your acoustic guitar and the way you play, night after night.Designed to work with standard acoustic |

Heil Sound Handi Mic Pro Plus Dynamic Microphone Black $108 The Heil Handi Mic Pro Plus is a dynamic microphone that incorporates innovative mic technology designed for a wide range of professional applications. This versatile Heil microphone excels at live sound, commercial broadcast, and sophisticated recording venues. The Handi Mic's wide frequency range outperforms tired, 30+ year old industry technology and can withstand huge amounts of SPL. The end result is a microphone that can answer the call to any application. The Handi Mic Pro Plus is ideal for use with tom drums where smaller microphones are needed, as well as inside Leslie speakers. The Handi Mic is perfect as an interview microphone because of its small size, low profile and great sound. Since 1982, Heil Sound has been the leading manufacturer of communications microphones and has a paramount understanding of phasing. When properly applied, this knowledge creates outstanding cardioid patterns with unbelievable rear rejection that removes unwanted sounds that try to enter from the off axis rear. The pattern control of the Heil Handi Mic Pro Plus is outstanding. This exceptional performance is achieved by using the ideal combination of materials for the large low mass diaphragm and a special mixture of neodymium, iron, and boron that gives the Handi Mic Pro Plus the strongest magnet structure available. Heil technicians paid special attention to the microphone's phasing plug assembly. The Handi Mic's equally placed ports accept sound from behind out of phase. Thus, the Handi Mic Pro Plus produces a very linear cardioid pattern and reduces proximity effect while achieving perfect articulation. The Heil element in this microphone is usable at extreme high sound pressure levels and is immune to overload conditions. That makes the Heil Handi Mic Pro Plus a dynamic microphone that is perfect for vocal and live sound applications. |

Free Mac Guitar Amp Simulator
It usually has six strings, but four, seven, eight, ten and twelve string guitars also exist. Free Mac Guitar Amp SimulatorAn electric guitar is the kind of guitar that uses pickups to convert the vibration of its steel cored string into electrical current, which is then amplified.
There are various ways to record an electric guitar. The traditional method is to connect to a really good amplifier. The latest option is to plug the guitar directly into the computer and use a software plug-in to handle the amp and the speaker modeling.
When recording an electric guitar, the amp is the important factor as far as the mic is concerned, and thus its position is important. The dynamic mic produces a solid sound with a smooth high end. However its position has just as much bearing on the tone as the mic itself.
One way to capture the sound of a large stack is to set up the stack in a large room, play it loud and put the microphone several feet away so that the combination of all the speakers can be recorded. Using this method, the mic captures the guitar sound as much as the audience would.
One of the microphones can be inverted though that does not produce the best result. Here using a capacitor microphone as the distant one often produces a sense of space, but the ultimate bottom line is that anything that sounds good goes with the guitar.
The biggest problem that many amateur guitarists face is poor tone. In order to solve this problem the recorder should check the amp and guitar combination on microphone level and then should decide where they would be placed. Tone should be adjusted but one thing should be kept in mind. The low end will increase if the microphone is placed close to the source. This is known as proximity effect.

Equipments containing transformers will tend to cause hum interference on electric guitar especially those of single coil pickups. Computer monitors in particular also cause serious interference problems with guitar pickups, so it is advisable to keep them as far away as possible.
While using different electric guitar types or sounds for recording, two or more overdrive guitar parts should be kept to keep the sounds separate in the mix. For example, using a single coil setting for one part and a humbucker for another.
