Lectern Preparation Guideline
A lectern is made to aid the presenter during a presentation. Its presence on stage will drive attention to the presenter and his presentation. To bring out the lectern’s full potential, first, position the lectern on a riser not too high for good visibility by the audience. Being prepared always brings positive results so knowing in advance whether your presenter is especially tall or if he has special preferences is a good idea. Taking note of the presenter’s physique and accommodating requests prior to his arrival would be advantageous.
Second, position the lectern where it will not be in the way of any audiovisual presentation but still demand attention. If the center stage is occupied with an audiovisual presentation, position the lectern on either side of it. If the audiovisual presentation is occupying only one side of the stage, position the lectern on the opposite space, where it does not interfere with the audience’s view.
Having set the lectern at its proper place, the third point is to make sure that it is splinter-free, dust-free and presentation-ready. A lectern dustcover would be a wise investment to go along with your lectern as it will save you time and take good care of your lectern. To make your lectern even more presentable, put up a quick and inexpensive flower arrangement at the base of the lectern. The audience will have a good view of your décor and will make the presentation more pleasing.
Now that it is sure your audience will have a comfortable time during presentation, the fourth step is to attend to the needs of your presenter. Make sure the light on your lectern works and adjusting it properly will give your presenter an easier time all through out his presentation. Time is always important for any event so make sure that the clock is properly set to the correct time prior to starting. Audio visual controls, audio-video connections, laser pointer, house controls and lavaliere microphone should also be at the lectern if needed. Another important thing to remember is to keep a glass of water for your presenter at the lectern.
The presenter, as well as the audience should have a good view of the audiovisual show. Otherwise, he will not be able to go through his presentation smoothly. To make sure of this, stand behind the lectern and check the presenter’s view of the audiovisual show. If it is hardly visible, provide a monitor at the lectern so the presenter can manage the presentation well.
Finally, move down to the floor area and check the lectern’s surrounding area for cords that are not in place and tape down any stray wires to prevent accidents and disruptions. When all cords and accessories are properly taken cared of, check sound level and the microphone. Make sure volume level is at a comfortable level and makes for an intelligible presentation. Follow this procedure for a smooth and successful presentation every time.
