Is it true that a condenser microphone cannot be plugged directly into a PC and requires a mixing desk?
I'm going to be doing some home recording on my PC and require a microphone. I was told that the best mics for recording vocals at home or in a studio are condenser mics. However, when I went to have a look for one today I was told by a shop assistant that if I wanted to plug directly into my PC I needed a dynamic mic because I couldn't use a condenser mic unless I had a mixing desk. Is this true and can anyone explain the reasons for this?
If you aren't concerned about using a mixing board or a pre-amp, the sound quality difference between a dynamic or condenser microphone will not be enough to make a difference. You could use a condenser mic, but you could also save yourself money.
