Why is my condenser mics causing hum that is heard over other sounds picked up?
Bought a vocal and instrument mic for home recording through a computer interface. The interface has phantom power and I have a proper microphone (Live Wire) cable. There is a loud hum that does not fluctuate with room placement, but only dissapears when the gain/cut is down to nearly no pick-up capacity. It's hard for me to conclude that the mics themselves are faulty since they both have the same noise. There is no noise when connecting a dynamic PA mic.
Well, I tried an external phantom power and that didn't solve the problem. My next step is to try a different mic cable. Could the interface itself be causing the issue?
Well, I finally nailed down the problem. The problem is in the software itself. I discovered this when I tried the mics without the software on and no hum was produced. Thanks for everyone's help.
