Dodgy microphone or dodgy shopkeeper?
I just bought a cheap electret condenser microphone for recording through my toneport UX1 onto my PC. The UX1 doesn't have phantom power built in but the guy in the music shop said this model of mic was self powered (it doesn't mention needing phantom power or a battery in the packaging either). The mic input on the UX1 has been tested with a dynamic mic so it should be fine, what I'm wondering is if there's something I've missed (never used an electret mic like this one before and I'm fairly new to recording) or have I been lied to?
Rather stupidly I neglected to mention the problem, ie. that I'm not getting a signal through the microphone, the only time the input meter showed even slight movement was when I tapped on the top of the mic.
make sure the volume is turned up....
start > run > "sndvol32"
click options > properties > Recording > "OK"
then make sure the microphone is selected and turned up
